Hints & Tips
The Kenmore Club is pretty remote and public transport is minimal. If you are not travelling to Kenmore by car then a hire car is a very worthwhile investment. If you are flying into Scotland then it is best to hire a car at the airport. You will need a car anyway as Kenmore is isolated, though there is a post bus but it is very basic.
Edinburgh is 80 miles from the resort, a 2 hour drive. Hiring a car from Edinburgh would probably be best as there is very little public transport from & to Kenmore. You can however take a train from Edinburgh (city centre) to Pitlochry (approx 22 miles & half an hours drive from Kenmore) and hire a car from the Dundarach Hotel, Pitlochry telephone 01796 472203. The local taxi service, Aberfeldy Taxis will do Airport transfers, their telephone number is 01887820370.
It is quite possible to reach the resort by train and taxi but the nearest train station is quite some distance away. If you are a train enthusiast or just want to relax and watch the scenary go by then there are plenty of opportunities locally for journyes by train - from Crianlarich - about 40 minutes away to either Oban or Fort William or to Pitlochry - again about 40 minutes and a train to Inverness.
When you arrive you will find extensive literature in your cottage regarding trips, tours and places to visit. Reception will be delighted to help you plan your days and the entertainments officer is very helpful and has his own itinary. A local tour service is Highland Safaris. Their night time excursions are great and they do others.
There is currently only one tour leaving from the Kenmore area, a mini bus tour of the local area (Whisky Tour) at a cost of £30 per person, telephone number is 01567 820051. Kenmore is situated in the centre of the scottish mainland, a very picturesque rural area, and is approximately a 2 hour drive to all major towns/cities. Atholl Travel, run by Robert Watford does personal tours, car hire and air/rail transfers, telephone number 01882634218 and website is atholltravelscotland.com. Other websites of interest are www.explore-highland-perthshire.com, & www.visitscotland.com.
An excellent activity is the sea-safari from South of Oban - you need the car and they offer sea trips to see eagles, dolphins, whales and a whirlpool.
Plenty of castles to visit, one within walking distance and Blair Castle is very good and close.
Visit the Harrods of the North - House of Bruar. Cut up your credit cards !
Endless eateries from good to excellent. Best is Ardeonaig hotel - down the Loch about 40 minutes but book ahead.
Salmon fishing permits are available from the resort, free of charge for a 3 mile stretch of the loch, but as we do not have bank fishing rights you would have to hire a boat locally. You can also buy salmon fishing permits for the River Tay from Kenmore Hotel, currently £25 per rod per day. Trout permits are available at the local post office shop at £5 per day.
